The Global Week of Prayer
York County Prayer is participating in an international initiative through 24-7 Prayer called The Global Week of Prayer. Currently, nearly one hundred nations are signed up to bathe their areas—and the world—in intentional, round-the-clock prayer during the week of September 1-7! Read more about the invitation from 24-7 Prayer International.
The York County Prayer team has been praying for years, asking God to provide a building where we could have a permanent prayer room—an artistically immersive “thin space” free of the distractions of modern life—where people of every age and background could go any time and find engaging pathways to encounter the living God. We were given an amazing space, just weeks before the Global Week of Prayer! We believe this timing was intentional, and makes us even more excited as we see God making a way for our community to lean in more intentionally to prayer for our region! Let’s not miss this moment. God is on the move in incredible ways on the earth, and is inviting us to be part. Join in with us!
How does it work?
The Prayer Room will be open during select hours throughout the week, September 1-7. The Global Week of Prayer starts at midnight September 1 (technically Monday morning, but think Sunday night) and goes until 11:59 PM on September 7, but some of the night and weekend hours will need to be covered in prayer from home—these are indicated on the sign up as the slots in blue. There will be a link where you can sign up for one-hour blocks at a time, whether at the prayer room (white slots) or at home (in blue). If you have trouble signing up, detailed instructions with a video are available here. If you sign up for a white slot, you are reserving the prayer room—please go to the space! This space was made for this moment.
You will want more than one hour in the prayer room. (Trust us—it will take one hour to go through everything, and then you will want at least one hour to settle into your spot and allow yourself to enjoy the presence of the Lord. Most people report that they wish they had signed up for three or four hours!)
Once you sign up, you will receive an email with confirmation of your time, further instructions, and a code to unlock the space for your registered slot. You can sign up for as many slots as you like! But please leave the space when your time is up so the next registered person can enjoy it. Make sure you read the FAQ’s below and the emails that come when you register!
FAQ’s:
Do I have to go to the prayer room during my time of prayer if I signed up in a white space?
If you must pray elsewhere for some reason, you do not have to come in.
However.
We cannot emphasize enough how much we strongly recommend that you make this date with God, keep it, and, like Jesus did while on earth, go to a mountaintop-like place to get alone with the Father. We have created this kind of place for this kind of prayer. You will not regret any sacrifice you have made to get there; if anything, you will only regret that you didn’t sign up for more time at the prayer room.
Can I sign up with others or do I have to be alone?
The prayer room is big enough to accommodate many people at once, with a few spaces throughout where you can still get alone. When you sign up, you will have the option to book the prayer space “exclusively” or to leave the slot available for others to sign up at the same time. You are perfectly welcome to book the entire space for yourself or to leave it open for others to join. Just remember, if you are sharing the space, be respectful of others’ experience in there (so mind the noise, limit chatter and anything that distracts from their prayer time).
You are welcome to bring a group to your exclusive slot—whether your family, staff, prayer team, or friends. Make sure to make the reservation “exclusive” so there will be plenty of space just for your group.
What if something comes up and I am not able to pray during the time I signed up for?
We understand that things come up. If you’ve made a booking and realize in advance that the time doesn’t work, it is easy to go in and delete your booking and schedule another time. If, however, it is within a few hours of the scheduled time, and you are not facing an emergency, please try to do all you can to follow through with your committed time. God has a way of making up for the time we give Him, even when we feel like we have too much going on! If that is not possible, we understand! Reach out to one of our team members (you will get a number to contact in an email with all the info once you sign up for a slot).
Is the space safe?
Yes, we are working to make it the most comfortable and safe experience that we can! The Prayer Room shares a building with other businesses and ministries on Oakland Avenue in Rock Hill, right down the street from Winthrop University and across from Old Town Church. The front door to the building will be unlocked from 8 AM - 5 PM Monday-Friday, but only those who have registered for a slot will have the code to access the prayer room (that will stay locked to anyone else). If you have signed up for a time that is after hours but in the “white” box, that means a staff member will let you in. We are working on additional safety precautions, but are also trusting the Lord who has provided this space. If you are uncertain about going alone, sign up with family or a friend.
Is the prayer room handicap accessible?
No. This is one downside to the “upper room” space — you do have to go upstairs to the second level to access the prayer room. There is no elevator. If you are not able to climb stairs but still want to experience the prayer space, reach out, and our team will see what we can do to help you.
Can I bring kids?
Yes! We have a room we’ve created especially with kids in mind! If you are going to bring your kids, make sure you sign up for an exclusive spot, so it will not be disruptive to others. You are responsible for your kids while there, and you are responsible for helping them to respectfully engage with the stations and put supplies away when done.
What amenities are available at the prayer room?
You will have access to a hall with bathrooms (toilets and sink) and a small kitchen (table, sink, fridge, and microwave). This hallway is also accessible to a few other businesses that also share those amenities, so you may see someone if you’re in those areas. We are working on providing a coffee and tea station solely for the prayer room, uncertain if it will be ready in time for the Global Week of Prayer. Bring what you need!
Where do I park?
There is a parking lot directly beside the building and in front of the main door; if that is full, there is more parking further down and to the side. Here is a picture of the parking lots looking out from a window in the prayer room.
There is a DONATE button when I go to sign up. Do I have to donate and who is that going to?
24-7 Prayer International has a donate button built into the sign-up software they have created for thousands of prayer rooms around the world to utilize. You do NOT need to donate to sign up! Also, keep in mind, if you do choose to donate, your gift through that button will go to 24-7 Prayer International, so York County Prayer will not know about your gift. If you feel led to give to the global movement, please do—they are a phenomenal organization that gives away countless resources for free! They need support, and we couldn’t do what we do without them.
However, if you feel led to sow into our local prayer room, to keep it stocked and running, we really would value that! You can give to York County Prayer at this button!
