An Honest Minute

...a song that plays like a psalm

Our friend

, who’s on the York County Prayer lead team, writes songs that remind me of the psalms. That’s because, like David, he lets himself be honest about all that’s going on inside—the wrestling, the emotion, the questions, the friction. He’s not afraid to be real and to be raw.

But, also like David, he doesn’t land there. He gives room for the emotions to air out and be named, because that is the healthy way forward, yet they don’t get to define the truth. Instead, he puts a stake in the ground on what he knows to be true… because God said.

I love this song. It was written during a hard and painful time, and follows the arc I see so often in the psalms—honest with God in the wrestling, ending on the faith-filled declaration. When it gets to that part, I get chills every time!

Andrew will lead worship and share one or two of his new songs at the Kickoff Night (register here for that) for the Global Week of Prayer. Join us!
